The California Arts Council announced their grant opportunity through the Nevada County Art council (Upstate California Creative Corps)UPSTATE CREATIVE CORPS, a grant that was lead by artists and spoke to the community on current social issues. Christine Mac Shane’s hope was to put together an exhibition and documentary that reminded us all that those faced with the hardships of life, like homelessness, are only a step away from ourselves.
The team spent several months providing art and writing workshops at the Jesus Center, Boys and Girls Club and Genesis Shelters while putting together the documentary and exhibit - Labels.
These are the stories of people in our community. Some are currently homeless or have temporary housing. Some have recovered or are recovered from being unhoused and a few have skirted the edge. Their stories are not far from many others, except for a twist of fate.
Old City Hall is located at 1313 Market Street in Redding, CA. This gallery is open to all ages and free to visit. Gallery hours are Tuesday-Friday from 10:00-4:00 and Saturday from 10:00-3:00.
