Our Board of Directors

David Moore

David is the Caltrans District 2 Director. Previous to this acting assignment, he was the Deputy District Director for Planning and Local Assistance for District 2. In addition to providing the vision for the future for the State highway system in District 2, his responsibilities also included overseeing federal and State transportation funds that are administered by the 40 local and regional transportation agencies and 10 federally recognized Tribes within the district. Dave has an enduring history and passion for supporting the arts in the community.

John Truitt

John is the Executive Director for Viva Downtown, an accredited Main Street America organization and has participated in many groups and collaborations throughout the community. John is very active as a Theater Instructor, Director and has been involved with performing arts in Shasta County for many years. He has worked, and conducted business planning workshops with Riverfront Playhouse, Axiom Repertory Theatre, and the Cascade Theater and served as director for the South Shasta County Children’s Choir and South Shasta County Youth Arts groups.  John is a past recipient of the Redding Chamber Virgil Covington Industry Award, Leadership Redding Alumni of the Year and Redding Citizen of the Year. John currently serves as the president of the SCAC Board of Directors.

Conica Patnik

Conica is the owner and operator of Patnaik School of Music. She recieved her Bachelor’s Degree in Music from ATCL Trinity College of Music, London, and her Masters in Education from Simpson University. Conica is a classically trained musician and has been a music instructor & business owner for 32 years.

Deborah Devine

Deborah is a retired teacher. She recieved her Bachelor’s Degree in Vocal Performance from San Francisco State University, and her Master’s Degree in Vocal Performance and Teaching Credential (K-12 Single Subject) from California State University, Chico. Deborah taught music both privately and in the public school system for 45 years, including developing the Enterprise High School choral program. Her choirs consistently took superiors at festivals, and her jazz choir TBA was voted Best High School Vocal Group in Downbeat Magazine. She is currently a business owner, running Churn Creek Golf Course and its White House Wedding Venue. Deborah is returning to the Arts Council after 25 years, having helped the Performing Arts Society get its start.

Karlo Henry Velázquez

Karlo is Curator/Founder of Art Hunger and Curator of the Riverfront Playhouse gallery. He graduated as an electronics engineer but continued his art education at the Instituto Tecnologico de Monterrey, Instituto de Bellas Artes de Queretaro, and the University of Texas in Arlington. His style began as collages deeply influenced by religious art and artists like Miro and Velazquez. It later evolved into more surreal portraits of hearts as seen in the series "CorazonEs:'' or ("HeartIs:"). He has created a diverse range of paintings that demonstrate influences from popular Spanish Surrealists Remedios Varo and Salvador Dali mixed with Mexican folklore and painters like Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera. After looking for a place in fine art galleries, he felt more at home in the emerging underground art scene in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, which gave him the opportunity to be part of a collective, help create new venues, curate shows and sell his works overseas.

Carol Chan

Carol was a School Counselor at Redding STEM Academy, and was the Project Manager of Human Resource Consulting at Hewitt Associates. She studied Business Management at Rutgers University and graduated in 1997 and has a Master's Degree in Marriage & Family Therapy. Carol has a 14-year-old son and an 11-year-old daughter that are very involved in the arts. She participated in the arts in high school and college and is a huge arts supporter in the community.

Tyler Faires

Tyler is a native to Shasta County and a graduate of Shasta High School. He currently works at 1800 Pine and Faires Wheel Films, where he is an American Cinematographer and Editor. Starting off at The Art Institute of Los Angeles, Tyler has over 10 years of experience working on documentaries and commercial production. He married his beautiful wife, Tara Faires, and had a baby during the pandemic.
