Needle Felting

  • Old City Hall 1313 Market Street Redding, CA, 96001 United States (map)

Students will learn that felt is an ancient fiber suitable for 2-D and 3-D artworks. Needle felting is a modern technique and works because of the barbed needle tangling the wool into a solid mass. Everyone will learn safe handling of the needles and a few sewing basics.

Project #1. Create a flat, 2-d felted piece using a historical design or one of your own.

Project #2. Create creatures using felting and sewing techniques. Bees, birds, bats, cats, and ladybugs can be made to hang as an ornament or attach magnets to adorn a locker or fridge.

Project #3. Design your own project using the techniques learned in class. All tools and wool provided.
